Beccles Minister Retires
|
|
Beccles church goers have seen the retirement of Anglican and Methodist minister Andrew Thomas. Blue Peter presenter and son of the rector Simon Thomas was at his fathers last service.
The Hungate methodist church was packed, with many having to watch from the foyer.

Local teachers Poetry in Print
|

A former teachers poetry is to be published after 50 years of saving her work. Joyce Barton, now 88 years old has finally been afforded the honour of seeing her work in print. Her book ‘ Dance through the Century’ will soon be on sale in both Southwold and Beccles.
Well done Joyce, we congratulate you.

Polimoon Job Reduction

Polimoon has announced it is to close down its site in Barker Street Norwich. Just about a month after they announced the loss of 31 jobs at the Thetford branch factory.
The company who are the new owners of the former Beccles based FIBRENYLE factory have said that it is hoping 34 of the workers will take up vacancies at either Beccles or Sutton, in Nottinghamshire, when the shutdown takes place at the end of August.
The factories employ over 400 workers at its Beccles and Thetford sites and another 90 plus at Sutton.

Local New Years MBE Award
|

Our sincere congratulations go out to a lady who has worked at the Beccles job centre for over 15 years.
Liz Stone has been awarded the MBE in the new years honours list, and is feeling highly proud right now.
The town will be so pleased for you Liz. These days Liz does administration work that may avoid some stress as she suffers from headaches caused by her multiple sclerosis illness.
Enjoy being Mrs L Stone MBE.

Police Cyclists Campaign

A police campaign accross waveney aimed at cyclists in north Suffolk riding dangerously has been a success. The Beccles-sector cycle safety campaign, which targeted cyclists who put others at risk, and also warned them to ride sensibly and safely or they could risk a £30 fine.
In five-weeks, police made 115 stops, gave 51 verbal cautions and issued five fixed penalty tickets for repeat offenders.
Letters were also sent out to the parents 60 children under 16, telling them their child had breached road safety laws.
