Barsham - Approx four miles
Starting
from the public car park at Waveney Meadow, Puddingmoor, Beccles.
Walk out of the car park and turn right on this narrow road,
on reaching the main Beccles to Bungay road, turn right passing
the Elizabethan Roos Hall. After a further 250 yards, where
a small farm lane goes off to the right at two cottages, take
this lane towards the marsh. On reaching a house, about one
mile on, turn left into a broad track, and walk uphill to a
pair of cottages on the left. Turn left into the lane in front
of these cottages, and continue ahead. You will pass Barsham
Church with its Thatched roof and quite unique east window,
the diamond tracery extends across the whole wall.
The
footpath will continue ahead for approximately 100 yards, with
the hedge on the right, then follows a clear path between two
fields to a footpath sign at the main road. Still following
a straight line, the path crosses the road diagonally to a small
gate in the fence of the house opposite. Going through the gate,
and following the garden path to the left, round the front of
this house to the road. Turn right a few yards ahead, turn left
onto a concrete lane. On your left is the Barsham water treatment
works. At its end near a farm building the track turns left
and goes uphill between the hedge and a wire fence. The track
ahead is known as 'Cut Throat Lane'. Follow with the hedge on
your left uphill, and after around 400 yards, this path continues
ahead but now between two high hedges. After another 400 yards,
reaches a road at a sharp corner.
Here,
turn left into another track, and follow this rather pleasant,
shady route (which is at the back of the Sir John Leman School
field) back to the main Bungay road. Turn right, then left into
Pudingmoor and back to the car park.
This
is another route with a variety of wildlife, it is possible
at certain times of the day to witness a fox near to the Barsham
Church area. Whilst near to the Waterworks site you will no
doubt see a number of wild rabbits.
Although
CWA makes every effort to ensure that the walks are accurate,
they are intended as a guide to the rambler. CWA accepts no
responsibility for any deviations or changes made to the walks.
